Hair Inspiration 2017: 11 Hairstyles to Try this Year

1. Blorange

Bronde hair color was huge last year. We saw celebs like Jennifer Lopez and Chrissy Teigen rocking this look in long layers. However, bronde is quickly being outshined by one of the hottest color trends of 2017, blorange. Georgia Jagger (Mick Jagger's daughter) first sported this look on Instagram in September of last year, and the trend has quickly gone viral in the beauty world with other celebrities, including Sienna Miller, taking the plunge into this girly color trend. This color pays homage to our favorite crimson citrus fruit, which gives it a rosey peach-colored hue that’s flattering to almost every skin tone. Red is more dominant than orange in this color, which is why it doesn’t look neon or unflattering as pure orange can look at times. This color will brighten up your skin tone and still look elegant. It also isn’t as out-there as some of the other options available in the market, so it’s a safer bet if you’re not into bolder colors.

2. Low Ponytail

Last year we saw a surge of celebs wearing high ponytails. However, 2017 is looking to be the year of the low ponytail. We saw this style featured in Rihanna’s Fenty Puma show during Paris Fashion week and the look was pure elegance. A low ponytail with straight, flat ironed hair looks sleek and put-together. The same style with wavy and natural-looking hair will soften your features and add an element of romance and femininity.

3. Short and Choppy

Short and choppy is the perfect style for #girlbosses on the go. It’s fuss-free and surprisingly versatile. Short and shaggy hair can add much needed texture and volume to fine hair. It accentuates the cheekbones and the neck, and will make you look sporty and sensual at the same time. You won’t need to do anything more than a quick blow-dry, use a texturizing mousse or spray, and do some backcombing to make the short shaggy hair look put together and stylish.

4. Crimped Hair

If you have fine hair and want an unusual texture on it, you can try crimping. This 90s-throwback style is making a major comeback this year. While it does require some time and effort, the effects are stunning. If you want statement hair, crimping is the right way to go. You will need heat protecting spray, a crimping iron, and some practice to get it right, but you’ll be surprised by how easy this style is to learn. There are other ways to achieve this look but the crimping iron is the best and doesn’t take much time. This long hairstyle will create small waves in your hair and add a considerable amount of volume to it.

5. Long and Glossy

Long and glossy hair requires maintenance and commitment, but it also gives you plenty of room to play with different styles and textures. You can add gentle beach waves, tie it up in a high ponytail, or take a page from Kim Kardashian and flat iron it until its sleek and straight. Long hair requires a lot of care and you need to trim the ends frequently to maintain a healthy freshness. However, if you’re willing to commit, you won’t be falling behind on this hair trend.

6. Pin Curls

Have you ever watched an old and admired the sleek but tight waves pinned close to the face? Pin curls are set to make a comeback in 2017. This formal look is sophisticated and elegant, and perfect for weddings. While the style is sleek like most ultra-modern cuts, the wave adds texture and dimension that makes it look less flat. Pin curls suit both fine and thick hair and some women with natural hair have also experimented with the style. What’s great about this look is that you can let it dry overnight and wake up to fabulous hair.

7. Ballerina Bun

You don’t need to be Misty Copeland to sport a classic ballerina bun. In fact, it’s a great hairstyle for most hair types, especially if you have missed a wash and are surviving on dry shampoo. All you need to do is comb your hair, make a high ponytail, twist it, and pin it to the top of your head securely with bobby pins.

You can make it as sleek or messy as you like and even let some stray pieces fall to around your face to soften the look. Last year Kendell Jenner, who’s likely to be one of the biggest hair inspirations in 2017, paired the ballerina bun with faux bangs cleverly created from the edge of her own hair. Not only is this look uncomplicated, it’s a timeless trend that emulates effortless elegance

8. Bangs

Bangs add youthfulness and charm to any hairstyle. There are several ways you can integrate bangs based on your personal style, whether it be a blunt cut, choppy strands, or a side-swept look. Bangs are youthful option that draw attention to the eyes.

Bangs can be paired with any length of hair so it doesn’t matter if you have a short pixy or long, straight hair, bangs would add a little flair to any style.

9. Braids

Braids have an enduring appeal so they’ll never go out of fashion. There are hundreds of different styles you can experiment with. Even a simple fishtail braid can look sophisticated and charming. Braids are best-suited for medium to long length hair. If you have a bob or shoulder length hair, you may want to consider extensions when trying this style.

Braids are also excellent if you have two-day or three-day hair and don’t have time to wash. You can simply use dry shampoo to remove the oil build-up and tie a sleek braid. No one will notice the difference. This hairstyle will stay put for a longer period of time on 2nd day or 3rd day hair.

10. Lobs (Long Bobs)

Long bobs or “lobs” are a very simple hairstyle that pack a bit of modern flair. Short hair is having a major moment right now and it’s safe to say that the bob is back! This style has even more appeal when applied to shoulder length hair. We love how Julianne Hough incorporated touseled beach waves for a laid-back California girl vibe.  Lobs have an easy breezy quality that allows you to tie them or braid them when you’re not inclined to style them. This trend looks great on a number of face shapes, so it’s a safe bet for anyone looking to make the chop.

11. Wet Look Locks

The wet-look was introduced to the red carpet by Khloe Kardashian last year and the style has since taken off. There’s something organic and earthy about this look, which appeals to a number of style experts. It’s unlike the sleek and well-maintained modern hairstyles and looks out-of-the-shower sexy. You can make your hair look textured and deliberately messy or slick it back like you just emerged from the swimming pool.

This look does require careful fashion styling since it can easily look messy if not paired it with the right clothing and makeup. However, this is one style you must experiment with if you want to try something bold and eye-catching.

REMEMBER:

There's no time like the present to step out of your comfort zone and switch things up with your hair. It's never too late to try something new or hit refresh on one of your old favorite styles, so don’t be afraid to have some fun and experiment!
